20 Weirdest Licensed Video Games EVER
9. Cat in the Hat
Adored by some and reviled by others, the 2003 film adaptation of Dr Seuss' classic children's book The Cat in the Hat remains one of cinema's most interesting and befuddling misfires. Critics and audiences of the time didn't quite know what to make of it and modern audiences also seem unable to settle on where it lands on the quality spectrum.
And the exact same can be said for it's video game counterpart.
Released alongside the film, this platformer borrows from a few of the classics, perhaps most obviously Pandemonium and Klonoa, with it's 2.5D stylings and core-mechanic revolving around capturing enemies to be used as weapons. On the surface it seems fairly standard but the overall presentation and off-beat attempts at humour that make it stand out from other games in the genre.
None of the levels really have anything to do with the film itself and the use of creepy "realistic" looking faces gives the game an uncanny vibe that the game does very little to alleviate. There's definitely people out there that will defend this one but its inherent weirdness is never anything less than off-putting, and you'd be better off playing the games it's ripping off instead.
