Don't mess this up.

Years of rumours have all pointed towards Ubisoft tinkering away at a modern update of the Splinter Cell franchise, but we now have our closest thing to a confirmation that a new game is coming. Speaking to Multiplayer.it (via GamesRadar), the Italian voice actor for Sam Fisher, Luca Ward, confirmed that a Splinter Cell project is in the works, and was originally planned to release this year.

Translated from the Italian site, he said:

“They have not yet figured out whether to do it in 2021. It was going to release in 2020, and then COVID-19 happened, and several big projects in 2020 got delayed. Others went on, like Cyberpunk 2077 on which I have almost finished working. But I am sure that Splinter Cell will return, this is a fact.”

Though Sam Fisher has shown up in a bunch of other Ubisoft games since its last mainline instalment, including the two recent Ghost Recon releases and the upcoming Elite Squad, Ward seems to be talking about something much more substantial. He refers to it as the "return of Splinter Cell" and calls the project a "conclusive episode".

It could be that Ubsioft pushed the announcement back following their decision to delay most of their 2020 slate, saving the reveal for a later Ubisoft Forward. It's not official until it comes directly from the company, but this is a good indicator that something is happening behind the scenes.
