21 Best Character Debuts In Gaming History

8. Vaas Montenegro (Far Cry 3)

"Is this not fun anymore? Have I failed to entertain you?" Vaas' introduction and personality throughout the otherwise fairly scattershot-tone of Far Cry 3 is one that elevates the game to a whole new level; mainly because the situation we find ourselves in upon his introduction i.e. being locked in a cage with him taunting us from outside, has such an immediate "I know I'm going to fight this guy later" vibe. Voice actor and likeness-provider Michael Mando does a spectacular job at improvising some small quips and lines of dialogue throughout his performance, but it's here when we realise that the opening fun-loving montage of the game is actually some recorded footage being played back to taunt us that things really got interesting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfGmzhVJVVI Walking the line between immediately likeable and terrifying due to sporadic changes in volume and a playfully dark tone of delivery, most of the time if you strike up a conversation with someone around Far Cry 3 it will centre around Vaas Montenegro long before it lands on that of protagonist Jason Brody.
