7. Fighting Nelo Angelo (Vergil) - Devil May Cry
https://youtu.be/qDaqbNT33-0?t=88 One of the best adrenaline-fuelled titles of all time came about almost completely by accident - starting out as a Resident Evil sequel that director Shinji Mikami had pitched too many action elements for - therefore it was branded Devil May Cry, changing action gaming forever for the better. DMC's combat engine was one of the first that really wowed anyone watching - like proper "Are you in control of that?"-style exclamations. It wasn't as overblown and cluttered as Bayonetta that would come later, and before God of War popularised quick-time events, every action was directly impactful, meaty and above all - pulled off with skill. So, come the point where you have to focus your lightning-fast attacks on one singular enemy who's just as adept at dodging and retaliating as you, and the result is every unbelievably fun Dragonball Z-style showdown you've ever seen. Swords clash in mid-air as you both jostled for ground, and special attacks and magic abilities flew in all directions whenever either party momentarily got a hit in. It was fast, ludicrously furious and a brilliant franchise moment that any gamer should delve into to this day. Just don't crank up the difficulty too far too fast - ol' Angelo's sword will be cutting you to ribbons before you can say "Where's DMC 5?"
