5 Changes You Need To Know About The New PS4 Model
3. The New PS4 Is Less Power-Hungry And Quieter
The new PS4 model has a whole new power supply unit which is 80g lighter than that of its predecessor. More importantly, this means that the new model is less power-hungry. During gameplay, the launch PS4 model used around 150W of power, while in the CUH-1200 this drops to 122W - nearly a 20% improvement in energy efficiency. The knock-on effect of this is that the CUH-1200 generates much less fan noise. The launch unit clocked fan noises between 43dB and 60dB, averaging around 57dB. The CUH-1200 meanwhile, generates between 42dB and 56dB, averaging 52dB. While this seems like only a small noise decrease, all the early reports are suggesting that the difference is noticeable.
