5 Reasons Modern Gamers Struggle To Get Girlfriends
4. They Are Not Funny
Ever see a Jack Black or Will Ferrell movie? Stupid question... All of you will know from watching these films, then, that you don't always have to be the best looking or most athletic guy to get girls. Girls, like men, like to laugh and if a guy can crack jokes with the best of them then he stands as good a chance as any at winning a girl's heart. Which is all well and good, except that gamers are just not funny. Yep, that's right; gamers are NOT funny. Well, not to outsiders, anyway. Gamers are funny to other gamers due to the fact that the frame of reference for their humour is the same. Jokes made by gamers inevitably focus on video games, picking up on their flaws and their iconography to appeal to other gamers. Case in point; the Skyrim "arrow to the knee" memes. These memes exploded onto the internet after the game's release in response to a quote from the game, where an NPC tells players they "used to be an adventurer too" before they were shot in the leg by an arrow. This seems innocuous enough but given that players in Skyrim regularly survive stabbings, bludgeonings, burnings AND barrages of arrows this single quote is the starting point for a large amount of parody at the hands of humoured gamers. But honestly, now that you've just read the core mechanics of these memes so clearly and (just a little) pompously, is it really that funny? I myself will admit that I've been weak with laughter at some of the Skyrim memes on the internet, but that's because I share the frame of reference with the creator. When you have to have it explained to you, though, it just isn't the same. So, until gamers start to get more acquainted with some of the hilarity and whimsy that exists in the world outside gaming, they simply are not going to be funny to the largely non game-playing female population. Get funnier (or so good looking that it doesn't matter) or else you'll never get the girl!
