Im all for a return to old-school military shooters, and contextualising it all in World War 1 is a masterstroke considering the conflict itself is almost untouched (save for the excellent Valiant Hearts, which you owe to yourself to check out)

However, this is still a game from EA DICE, and what was their last shooter?

Well, Star Wars Battlefront, otherwise known as Hold Left Trigger Then Right Trigger: The Game. Im not saying theyre not bringing their a-game to Battlefield 1 considering the lacklustre response that Hardline received, but to act like this is the holy grail of first-person shooters, the messianic return of a franchise thatll give the genre a much-needed injection of innovation, is a stretch to say the least.

Plus, when it comes to games revitalising shooters and making you love them all over again, DOOM and Overwatch are already out, and they couldnt be further away from the gritty, military themes we got so tired of in the first place.
