7 Reasons Why You Should Be Worried About The Nintendo Switch

1. You Grew Up. Sorry.

Oh…

Oh yeah…

Nintendo isn’t for us now. Not primarily, anyway. I know. I broke my own heart saying that too.

They don’t want the general gaming market any more. Their job is done. They were the reason we’re playing games today. Hell, they’re the reason we play games the way we do today.

Your memories of four-player split-screening GoldenEye on a 14-inch TV, blowing into that Duck Hunt cartridge, scaring yourself stupid in Resident Evil 4 are dead, just like you will be if you play as Oddjob on the competitive GoldenEye circuit. Lost, like tears in rain.

Nintendo knows precisely who it wants to buy its consoles. Kids and parents, and not too much in between. If you decide to join their club, Nintendo welcome you with open arms. But they’re not going to chase you too hard, now they’re in the ‘supplement console market’.

We’ll see if Switch can transform the gaming landscape, but right now, every new reveal makes the Switch looks like another Wii U – available from your local Oxfam soon.

Cross your toes (so you can still keep gaming) and hope it’s a runaway success, ‘cause, seriously, can you imagine a world where the only way to get your Nintendo fix was Super Mario Run?
