It got lonely sometimes in Red Dead Redemption although I guess that was sort of the point. Marston is €˜the lone gunslinger€™, that archetypal Western staple so the loneliness acted more of a tonal choice by Rockstar than anything else. That said it couldn€™t hurt for them to take a leaf from their GTA IV book and include a system of friends with which we could interact outside the plot. Of course there are no phones in the wild west, so the equivalent of getting a text would probably be a courier catching up to you on horseback and passing you a telegram, but the result would be much the same. In GTA IV, gaining standing with a friend gave you access to their special ability; lifts around town, or the instant purchasing of guns and ammo for example and there could be similar rewards for increasing friendship levels in Red Dead Redemption 2. Perhaps though, to push the depth of this system even further, gaining standing with a friend could allow you to recruit them into a posse €“ another staple from the genre that€™s already been half explored in Red Dead Redemption€™s single player.
