8 Side Characters Who Are More POWERFUL Than You
The main character could've taken a damn holiday.
It's generally expected that, per the power fantasy nature of most video games, our protagonist will end up being the most powerful heroic character in the game. That's how it usually goes, right?
But that isn't always the case - sometimes a sidekick or even a minor character ends up getting the edge on our hero, and then there are those instances where the disparity is decidedly more noticeable.
Sometimes a side character might be so much more powerful than the player character that it feels like we could just go on holiday, or at least put our feet up, and let our comrade do the whole save-the-world shtick.
And that's absolutely the case with these games, each of which presented us with a plenty-powerful hero who was nevertheless categorically outdone by a side character.
Perhaps they were a dark horse who quietly sneaked up and surpassed the hero, or maybe they were clearly orders of magnitude stronger than our character from the moment they showed up.
Either way, stand these sidekicks next to our vaunted protagonists and it's pretty much no contest...
8. Thunder God Cid - Final Fantasy Tactics
Let's kick this list off with perhaps the single most infamous example of an ultra-powerful side character - Thunder God Cid from Final Fantasy Tactics. And let's be honest, the name says it all really.
Cid somewhat understandably joins your party only near the end of the game, given that he's quite arguably the single most overpowered party member in Final Fantasy history, effortlessly surpassing the might of protagonist Ramza Beoulve in the process.
If his name somehow didn't tip you off to his omnipotence, the dude also straight-up enters the party while rocking Excalibur of all things.
Moreover, his stats make him so gosh-darn powerful as to trivialise most of the rest of the game should you choose to use him.
Ramza is certainly no slouch in his own right, but Cid is a literal living battlefield legend - a character so capable of tuning up the bad guys it almost feels like he should be a secret party member unlocked only by defeating a superboss.
