8 Best PS4 Multiplayer Games You Can Play Offline

6. Rocket League

Rocket League is more than a game at this point - it's an e-sport, a genuine craft, a cultural phenomenon. No one expected this quirky fusion of Micro Machines and football to have been such a runaway success, especially when its predecessor was at most, a well-liked cult hit.

There's no disputing that Rocket League is best enjoyed when played online against other people, with your team being made up of people sharing the couch and screen with you. However, there's also plenty of fun to be had with local multiplayer matches - whether they're tricky one-on-one duels, or two-on-two games with the screen split four ways. It's one thing to gloat about your victories over online opponents using the auto-messages, childishly spamming them with the 'What a Save!' message after you score a goal. But that experience has nothing on the elation of scoring a last-second winner against your friend sitting next to you, then busting out an elaborate victory dance in front of the screen.

The recent 'Mutators' update has thrown in a bunch of amusing variables as well - like giant balls, regenerating boost, and an 'Ice Hockey' mutator due in December - adding some variety to the formula (not that the base game needed it).
