8 Cancelled Wrestling Video Games

TNA Impact 2

The widely accepted received wisdom is that AKI's N64 outing No Mercy is the absolute best wrestling game of all time, an ultra refined end-point to the studio's series of grapplers on the system dating back to WCW vs. nWo: World Tour.

Had Nintendo not began to mothball their aging 64-bit behemoth as they prepared to drop a purple box of tricks on the world, we may have been waxing lyrical to this day about an N64 bone-bender even better than the de facto daddy.

Prior to Project Reality becoming a distant memory, AKI were working on a follow up to their magnum opus, with the game stated to have been 30% complete before it was necessarily canned by the hardware march. Little is known about the working title, though it's believed it would have featured a Hell in a Cell match-up, as well as a six-man tag option - presumably leveraging the N64's Expansion Pak to shoulder the extra load.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
