Numinous Games

While much of the emotional content in the games featured on this list is derived from entirely fictional narratives, That Dragon, Cancer includes an entirely extra dimension of depressing due to the real-life motivations behind the game's design.

The autobiographical experience depicts the life of Joel Green, the son of developers Ryan and Amy Green, and his life after being diagnosed with a cancerous tumour at just 12 months old.

Knowing the real-life implications of the events portrayed in the game only makes them all the more emotional, as it becomes almost impossible to comprehend how the parents managed to maintain their faith all the while knowing that their son's disease was terminal and that he wouldn't live to see adulthood.

For those that haven't played it, it really is worth checking this game out, but make sure you have a box of tissues at the ready because this game truly is heartbreaking.
