8 Great Video Games Remembered For ONE Thing
5. Leeroy Jenkins - World of Warcraft
No matter whether you're still an obsessive World of Warcraft player or have never even touched the game, there's a good chance you're aware of its legendary Leeroy Jenkins meme.
In 2005, shortly after the game's release, a hilarious video was released in which a group is preparing a battle plan for their next raid all while a member of the group, Leeroy Jenkins, is away preparing a plate of chicken.
Leeroy returns having not heard their planning and immediately decides to run into the battle area while screaming, "Let's do this! Leeeroooooooy Jenkiiiins!"
The rest of the group then runs in and attempts to save him, resulting in the entire squad being wiped out by the powerful enemies. As the group's members criticise Leeroy, he retorts, "At least I have chicken!"
The video quickly became a viral phenomenon that extended outside of the game's fans, enough that Leeroy Jenkins even showed up as an answer on game show Jeopardy! the very same year.
"Leeroy Jenkins" also swiftly became short-hand for someone hurling themselves headlong into a dangerous situation with seemingly suicidal abandon, and though the video was revealed to have been staged in 2017, that's done nothing to dilute its utterly iconic power.
Even for those who abandoned World of Warcraft a short while after it launched, the legacy of Leeroy Jenkins lives on loudly.
