8 Hated Video Game Characters That Just Wouldn't Die

Now this one is a little contentious as I know just as many people who really respected what Naughty Dog did with the character arc of Abby in The Last Of Us Part 2 as there were people who utterly despised her impact on the story.

I personally am conflicted and somehow sit on the fence, as I truly do think that moving the players focus in such a manner was a bold move, and one that sets up a revenge story for the ages, but to lose Joel in such a horrifying and brutal manner was a gut punch it will take years to recover from.

I understand why people hate Abby, as she quite literally robbed players of one of their favourite characters, and was so thoroughly unlikable throughout her tale that it was hard to see her side of the story clearly. Yet this is the point, that when the path of revenge is chosen, you lose a part of yourself. You lose that piece of humanity that is connected with empathy and forgiveness, and instead shut off love from your life.

Here it's Ellie that regains that sliver of human essence because she spares Abby at the end, and while she definitely does not wear a white hat thanks to the trail of bodies behind her, at least it breaks the cycle of violence at the end.

Therefore as much as people may have wanted Abby to die, it's for the betterment of so many others that she didn't.
