Ubisoft were always going to bring back the most lucrative franchise in their 30 year history at some point, and although Assassin's Creed: Black Flag actually contained some artwork that alluded to Feudal Japan, it was a leak from 4Chan that unveiled all.

The leak goes that Ubi are moving away entirely from advancing the settings of their games towards the present day, and instead going backwards - all the way to Egypt.

You'll reportedly "play as a slave or ex-slave [who] looks a lot like Altair, but with a darker skin. He is not edgy, he's a nobody that barely speaks [...] There are talks about making a trilogy of this same character" according to the leak.

The poster also commented that ancient Egypt had been chosen as it's one of the most alluring time periods, yet with a substantial lack of historical record. It's a time before the Assassins and Templars, possibly meaning we could see the formation of both, and the key figures involved.
