Another certainty made clear from the trailer - as if it weren't already - is that Pokémon from previous generations will be available to catch on Alola. When that may be, however, is another question.

Although the vid showed trainers catching old 'mon in the wild, there's every possibility the footage is featured simply to render the concept of something new palatable to the usual array of miserable, jaded fans. Didn't you know, nothing these days is as good as it used to be, and this process has been iterating since the beginning of time? Things are literally as bad as they've ever been!

Whether they are available from the start in parallel to the new critters, or only make their appearance once the game's main story has been completed à la Pokémon Black & White is unknown, but either way legacy Pokémon are going to be in the game without the need for any transfers. After all, couldn't have Pokémon without Pikachu.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
