8 Times Video Games Got Star Wars Wrong

2. The Nuances Of Starfighter Combat - Battlefront

If it wasn't already apparent that this article was written by the dorkiest of dorks, then it'll surely be made clear in this entry.

Taking the reins of a starfighter is one of the best things to do in any Star Wars game. They're fast, combat is frenetic, and when you have all the iconic sounds and visuals coming at you in a great big space battle, nothing can really top it.

That being said, if we are going to be especially pedantic about what games get wrong and right about Star Wars, well... let's just say that studios are still a ways off from providing the definitive starfighter experience.

So far, the newer Star Wars Battlefront games have adapted this element of the franchise most authentically. TIE Fighters lack shields like they do in the films, and every craft has its own strengths and limitations. But things could be better.

For one, no Star Wars game has actually attempted to show-off the transition between atmospheric and non-atmospheric flight. Vehicles like the Y-Wing actually perform worse when they're not in space - there isn't a seamless transition between both environments as there is in the games.

There are other aspects of starfighter battles that would be great to see in-game too. For instance, instead of it being piloted by a single person, wouldn't it be great to have multiple players in the Millennium Falcon at once, controlling all the different turrets ala the bombers in Battlefield? It would also be great to see more involvement on the cruiser side of things, and how capital ships engage with one another.

None of these are necessary features of course - and Starfighter Assault is one of the best Star Wars gaming modes I've ever experienced as a fan - but it's just the case that more could be done to make it as authentic as possible.
