It's easy to get swept up in the hype of a new release. At the end of the day nobody wants a game to be bad, and it wouldn't be healthy to go into every new announcement expecting it to be terrible.

There's no point being a video game fan if you're just going to be negative about everything you see, because it will inevitably lead to a self-fulfilling prophecy where no game can live up to your impossibly lofty expectations. But while everyone likes to remain hyped for the year's biggest titles, there's no denying that you can just tell when something looks... off.

Whether it's down to a dodgy trailer or an awkward E3 presentation, there are plenty telltale signs to look out for in the months leading up to a game's release, indicating whether or not it's going to live up to the levels of quality that the marketing teams would have you believe.
