It makes sense that Call of Duty games are quickly forgotten. Just like FIFA, they're yearly releases so they all kind of blend in with one another. You play an entry and then move on after a year.

The thing that's special with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is that it manages to hit that perfect blend of forgettability and sales to make the title a better fit for this list than any other entry.

Yeah Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (the reboot) also sold really well, but Black Ops is also quite memorable. If this list was written a few years later then who knows, maybe 2019's Modern Warfare would get this spot.

That's not to say Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a bad game, it's just the least interesting entry in the Modern Warfare series with it feeling like a lacklustre conclusion to the excellent story from the first two entries. Modern Warfare 3 also doesn't add enough new to really feel distinct.
