8 Video Games Ruined By Being TOO Successful
3. Assassin's Creed Franchise
Believe it or not but the Assassin's Creed franchise that we know today is actually a far cry from the original intentions for the series, as if you were to go by the discussions that Patrice Desiltet has had with media outlets, the format has changed into something he hardly recognizes.
The original plan for AC was to focus on nine unique titles each interweaving into one another to tell a grander story at large, and that this through narrative was going to anchor itself with strong consistent leads. However after Patrice left Ubisoft and took his plans with him, there was something of a panic as to what to do with the franchise going forward.
Therefore a call was made which would shape the future of Assassin's Creed forever, as Ubisoft looked to what "worked" in Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood and cranked out titles reflecting this ad nauseam. Soon the narrative gave way to spectacle gameplay and became so bloated with side quests and monstrous maps because such features track well with audiences and because, if we're being honest, Ubisoft makes this type of game very well.
Gang Hideouts, Big Maps, Eagle Vision, Towers unlocking new areas of the map, all features common in Watch Dogs, Far Cry, Tom Clancy titles, and now that Assassin's Creed is making the full move to a Live Service title, you can't help but feel any last shred of originality has finally been stamped out of the series.
