8 Video Games That Mock You For Using Cheat Codes

2. Banjo-Kazooie

Banjo Kazooie
Rare

As adorable as Banjo-Kazooie might seem, it has an absolutely ruthless regard - or lack thereof - for players who get a little too overzealous with the cheating.

Though the game does feature an area, the Sandcastle, where players can enter cheat codes, if you greedily try to have three cheats on the go at once, you'll receive a warning message from support character Bottles.

He'll promptly inform you that your N64 game cartridge will be erased, before asking you if you want to continue. Now, most players will probably assume that Bottles is simply acting out a bit and the game surely wouldn't wipe your cart for real for the mere act of cheating, right?

Wrong. Oh, so dead wrong.

If you accept the terms, evil witch Gruntilda will then inform you that your saves have been erased, and indeed, the next time you close the game off and return to it, all of your saves will have been deleted.

Ain't that some bulls**t?

There's gently taking the piss out of players for using cheats and then there's... flat-out wasting their precious time. This wasn't fun - it was straight-up mean.

Fascinatingly, this cruel mechanic still lives on to this very day in the Nintendo Switch version of the game.
