9 Hugely-Anticipated Video Games Still To Come In 2018
8. Code Vein
With From Software having distanced itself from the dark fantasy RPG series that jumpstarted its lightspeed rise to fame, Dark Souls publisher Bandai Namco has found itself in desperate need of filling the void left behind by the series' closing chapter that was Dark Souls 3.
Itself having birthed an entire 'Souls like' subgenre of RPGs, the hardcore crowd that flocked to Lordran, Drangleic and Lothric in search of a challenge have only momentarily had their appetites for such white-knuckle difficulty satiated. They want more and Bamco is hoping to deliver, just not with a game with the words dark or soul in the title.
Both affectionately and informatively dubbed 'Anime Souls' by all that have clapped eyes on it, Code Vein's post-apocalyptic world populated by highly-stylised vampires is unashamedly borrowing many of Dark Souls' core mechanics (death penalties, strategic combat, interconnected environments, etc.) not as simply a means of filling the gaping Darksign-shaped hole in Souls' fans hearts, but to experiment with the formula in new and inventive ways.
