6. Mass Effect 3's Indoctrination Theory

Yes, the ending to Mass Effect 3 upset a lot of people, so some imaginative fans came up with their own alternate theory as to why Shepard is presented with three rather generic choices at the end. The theory suggests that the ending may simply be a hallucination, and Shepard has actually been indoctrinated by the Reapers.

Indeed, the choices are not really choices; blue means that he controls the Reapers, though this is just an illusion of control and it is in fact the other way around, whereas green means synthesis, and the Reapers get to bind with every living thing in the universe. In either situation, it's a win for the bad guys.

Granted, there's still the red option which allows Shepard to destroy the Reapers, but on the whole, this idea fits a lot better with the tonally strange nature of the ending - it's crap because it's a hallucination, and it's meant to be atypical. Plenty of Mass Effect fanboys swear by this one.
