9 Most Controversial Video Game Moments Of 2017
5. Destiny 2 Fails To Meet Expectations
Oh Bungie, where did it all go wrong? Destiny 2 was supposed to be a blank slate for the series - a chance to cut away the problem parts birthed from the original's troubled development and the perfect platform to show Guardians just how much you've learned over the last three years.
Except, that's not what Destiny 2 turned out to be. Not really. It's as if, midway through the extensive renovations of the original, one half of Bungie splintered off to begin, in earnest, work on a sequel, ignorant of the innumerable number of improvements made to the vanilla game with The Taken King and Rise of Iron.
Whether there's any truth in that suspicion, nobody but Bungie can provide an honest answer, but it's an understandable one to have, considering that Destiny 2 - besides the obvious visual and narrative improvements - feels like the sequel to a game that no longer exists.
The sad irony is, Destiny Year Three, bolstered by endless patches and game-changing expansions, is more deserving of sequel status than the numbered follow-up that landed this year.
Whatever the problem, Bungie needs to get on top of it fast, or else this will be the only legacy Destiny 2 leaves behind.
