2. Gryphon Knight Epic

A side-scrolling shoot-em-up that swapped out futuristic settings for a knight riding a mother-fudging griffin should have set the world on fire, but unfortunately the indie game didn't quite have the technical skill to match its aesthetic ambition.

Especially now, in an age where Cuphead has given throwback side-scrollers a new lease of life, an older attempt like this with basic issues and poor controls is pretty much obsolete. Still, that didn't stop the rarity of the game's physical release from making it an enticing collector's item.

Perhaps thanks to its subdued critical reception, only 999 PS4 copies were made, but the premise of riding a griffin to victory across the game's admittedly lovely levels was more than enough to shift every disc available.
