9 Video Games Everyone Played Wrong
7. Disco Elysium
Disco Elysium is a spectacular 2019 RPG from ZA/UM that I absolutely will not stop bringing up but it’s relevant here so let me have this one? Okay, let’s go.
While the version that released at launch had some voice acting it was very minimal, which is a bit of a shame because the voiced parts were really good and to say this game has a lot of reading in it is truly underselling the sheer amount of reading. It’s fortunate then that The Final Cut which released in 2021 includes full voice acting and new content. This is pretty universally agreed upon as the best way to play the game and it elevates the already fantastic narrative to new heights.
Of course, not many people played it this way because even though it was a free upgrade for PC players, it didn’t arrive until two years after the initial release.
It’s a massive shame as the update basically takes a game that was, in this humble writer’s opinion, a total 10/10 and makes it even better. Aside from that as the majority of the game is written in descriptive narration, you’re now having all that read to you in dulcet tones so the game feels more like a classic tabletop RPG than ever before. So do me and yourself a favour and if you haven’t played Disco Elysium, especially if you were put off by all the reading, make a beeline for the Final Cut.
