4. Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword

The Legend of Zelda has undergone many different forms, variations, and was arguably perfected... several times. Between A Link to the Past, Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild you can find a myriad of people calling each one the perfect game - or at least the perfect Zelda game.

Each in the series is linked to all the others by way of a branching storyline, with each game taking place within a greater narrative of eternal reincarnation.

Skyward Sword takes place at the very beginning of this eternally retold tale. In the game, Link, technically in his earliest incarnation (though there are plenty of debates regarding the Zelda timelines) is a knight-in-training within an aerial land known as Skyloft.

Link works together with Zelda to kill an ancient evil known as Demise and that Zelda is secretly the mortal reincarnation of the goddess Hylia. But, as is usual in a Zelda game - she gets kidnapped. This time she's taken into the past and used to resurrect Demise before Link can kill him.

Demise curses Link and Zelda to battle his vengeful spirit for eternity. In the end you, as Link, may have saved the world and founded Hyrule on the surface... but you've also doomed the world to generations of Ganon's attacks.
