Batman: Arkham Knight - 12 Superhero Franchises Rocksteady Must Tackle Next

Batman's done n' dusted - it's time for something different.

With Arkham Knight€™s arrival having signalled Rocksteady€™s departure from the series that made them famous, a lot of attention is being drawn to what they may fix their sights on next. Just because the studio have stated they have now departed the Arkham franchise doesn€™t mean that they€™ll be leaving comics alone in their entirety. In fact, many fans will know that not only is the developer directly owned by Warner Bros. (who coincidentally own the entirety of DC Comics), but that they have also been planting multiple seeds that allude to a world outside of the confines of Gotham City. Indeed, with the Justice League film fast approaching, chances are Rocksteady will be hard at work adapting other DC Comics properties in tow, but there are most certainly opportunities for the developers to broaden their horizons. Comic books have experienced a level of popularity never before achieved today €“ mostly due to the blockbuster releases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though some may claim that costumed characters are over-saturating fiction in all its mediums, there are plenty of varied stories just waiting to be tackled both on screen and off. Rocksteady are best poised to bring some of the most renowned comic books to life, having already harboured the success of three Batman titles. Characters and stories from Marvel, to DC, and even independent comics are well worth an adaptation, and here€™s hoping that the creators of Arkham are still eager for more.
Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
