6. Skydiving Into A Fountain
Where San Andreas brought us skydiving, GTA IV gave us falling with style. It appears Rockstar took a step back when they invented a new physics engine. Where Carl Johnson could speed through the air like a ghetto bullet, Niko Belic floundered like an indecisive octopus. When presented with a fall beyond a single storey, Niko would go arse-over-tit in the most realistic way possible. And we all thought this was ok he reacted a lot like we did, whether falling from heights or being hit by a car. So really, his bumbling co-ordination was something of a boon to hardcore sandboxers looking to play target practice with our favourite mardy Serbian. The challenge was to fly high over Middle Park in a helicopter before bailing and attempting to land in the main fountain. Would it kill him? Almost definitely. But were you proud? Almost certainly. The fact is that steering Niko was damned difficult, so actually hitting the sweet spot was the biggest thrill you could have without taking your trousers off. The only way it could be more perfect was if he survived his fall no mean feat, considering the water-breaks-all-falls rule of San Andreas was most certainly no longer in play.
