Though the SDM is listed as a sniper rifle, it is functionally more similar to either a tactical rifle or slow-firing AR. In fact, remove the rifle’s default scope and equip the weapon’s iron sights and it ends up feeling very similar to the aforementioned Auger DMR tactical rifle.

Though it is a pretty solid option which will prove deadly at mid to long range, the SDM suffers significantly in close quarters combat, which should come as no surprise to those familiar with this type of weapon. The SDM actually features damage which could rival the Paladin HB50, though this weapon won’t afford quite as many one-shot kills as its .50 cal counterpart.

In truth, most of the sniper rifles available in Black Ops 4’s multiplayer are overshadowed by the tremendously powerful Paladin HB50. However, those looking for incredibly high damage without fully committing to the sniper role may find a happy medium with the SDM.

There aren’t many out-and-out bad primary weapons in Black Ops 4, and those inclined to do some long-distance shooting may be at home with this rifle. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, though.
