Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best
22. Big Norm
Big Norm gets slightly more love than Small Norm, but only slightly. The Speed category is a bit more exciting than Small Norm’s balance across the board, though both are viable picks. As one of the two fattest characters in the game, being speedy doesn’t necessarily make sense.
Then again, the other chubby character is a speed demon too. This hearkens back to a Mario Kart tradition, in which the heavier characters are faster, presumably through inertia.
The same as with Small Norm, stripping Norm of his central gimmick and just having two separate characters gives us more options in game, but also diminishes his appeal. His design with the round beer gut spilling out from under his shirt is a little gross, but fantastically evocative.
The game itself seems to acknowledge that he’s a minor player in the grand scheme of things too. In Nitro Fueled, his home track was Out Of Time, a fiendishly tricky track based on the inner mechanisms of a clock.
It’s still in Nitro Fueled, but it’s been assigned as N. Tropy’s hometrack, with the much more popular Crash villain sweeping by and taking it for himself.
