Dragon Age 4: 11 Things We Learned From The Behind The Scenes Gamescom Feature

The age of dragons is upon us once again!

After a long and patient wait for Bioware's biggest fantasy franchise, fans are finally getting news about the next Dragon Ageā„¢, which is interestingly not being labeled "Dragon Age 4", or officially named in any way.

From concept art to statements from the team, here's an interesting deep dive into the wealth of information that's been dropped while the new game is either at the tail end of pre-production, or finally in production, full-swing.

Despite being shelved for a fairly long time to make way for Anthem, it's clear how much love for the fantasy franchise the folks at BioWare have. The (allegedly renegade) release of the #DreadWolfRises trailer of 2018 to the continuing stories in the recently released Tevinter Nights short story anthology - as well as in the comics that have been released fairly consistently since Inquisition - attest to that.

With the way the company has expanded to the creators sharing, and sometimes teasingly withholding, content they've been actively working on on social media like Twitter, it's clear they've got Dragon Age on the brain, and will for the foreseeable future.

This deep dive will reveal some minor spoilers for the Tevinter Nights short story collection, as it gives the most recent clues to BioWare's next steps apart from this Behind The Scenes video.

Solas, of course, plays a huge part in this game, with how he left off in Trespasser and the way his return, and his intention to tear down the Veil to free his people and possibly destroy the world, implied to be the main story of the next game.

A new 3D model of Solas's head is featured in the video, which puts to rest any question of him being present in the game (as if anyone had any doubt), as well as a lot of concept art depicting his powerful Dread Wolf form. Having featured in the final short story in Tevinter Nights and teased in 2018's #DreadWolfRises trailer, it's clear this isn't the last we'll see of our beloved and reviled egghead.

Images of floating ruins similar to those in Trespasser are also seen, including an intriguing floating ship that brings to mind flying Aravels as described in the Deep Roads DLC by Legion of the Dead officer Renn.

This, and the epilogue describing Elves leaving en masse to join Solas's forces, clue players into the larger role Solas's "people" will play in the next game.
