Dying Light 2: 10 Crucial Things It Must Improve

8. Improve The Main Character

Dying Light's main character Kyle Crane was... fine... in a vacuum. An American government agent assigned to retrieve a data file from a warlord, Crane quickly contracts the zombie virus upon landing in the fictional Middle Eastern country of Harran, and must learn to balance his loyalties between helping citizens and fulfilling his duties. Inevitably, he must prevent the entire country from annihilation.

Very cliched, but it was ok. Except for the extremely glaring issue that it was yet another bland white guy saving a nation of non-white people. Essentially, it served as the textbook definition of the White Savior. It's been done to death, and only gave potential players another reason not to check out that new zombie game.

Luckily, based on the trailer for the sequel, the main characters is probably not Crane anymore, being replaced in favor of a voice actor with a slight accent, perhaps signaling that the new protagonist will at least be a citizen of the country he is trying to save (heavily believed to be in Eastern Europe).

This is already an improvement upon the original, so as long as the writers and the voice actor can give the new guy a little more personality and depth, and be much less whiny, we'll be all set.

We're not expecting Joel and Ellie here.
