E3 2012: Square Enix Unveils Next-Gen Tech Demo

Theres a moment in every generation shift where the former must acknowledge that its day in the sun has passed and finally rest in the hopes that all the progress and development it managed to make is built upon by its successor. For the current gaming generation, that moment is now, today, and was cemented with Square Enixs unveiling of the Agnis Philosophy tech demo at this years E3 conference. Running on the shiny new next-gen Luminous Studio engine, this is the very same gorgeous and almost unbelievable level of graphical excellence that we can expect from our next-gen Playstations, Xboxs and future PC video cards. But be warned, prolonged exposure may cause spontaneous orgasm and sudden cold indifference toward the current gen. http://youtu.be/UVX0OUO9ptU Demonstrated in real-time to E3 audiences, the demo was designed to showcase the magic and emotion of the Final Fantasy saga, and "was created through the lens of the FINAL FANTASY series, where ancient magic and advanced science coexist in a near-futuristic world. The video depicts a life-changing encounter for our heroine, the magic-wielding protagonist Agni." Although Square Enix is yet to divulge the hardware specifications required to run the Agnis Philosophys real-time tech demo technology, they have indicated that the Luminous Studio engine is being developed for game consoles, PC, Smarthphones and the web. Despite this being a new-generation technology, Square Enix have been careful to point out that they will be able to bring this development environment and core engine (at one degree of complexity or another) to more familiar platforms; presumably meaning Xbox 360, Playstation 3, the upcoming Wii U and maybe even PS Vita. Of course dont expect your Android Smartphone to run the engine as beautifully as the video above, but with its scalable nature, Square Enix are able to aim high graphics wise without leaving the current generation completely behind. So, is this a new Final Fantasy game, ready and waiting to usher us into this new gaming generation? Well it could be, but then again, it may also not be. Square Enix have posted a survey on Agni's Philosophy urging gamers to comment on the character, story themes, design and presentation, allowing users to have their say on the newly released footage.
