E3 2017: 22 Jaw-Dropping Video Game Reveals You Need To Know About

8. Xbox One X Unveiling & Original Xbox Backwards Compatibility

Microsoft came to E3 to win, and although they don't have any first-party offerings worth getting excited about, their gambit is to completely dominate third-party instead.

Want to play The Witcher 3? It'll run best on XOX. How about older 360 classics like Red Dead Redemption or Bioshock? They'll take immediate advantage of the system's additional processing power to run better than ever. Simple as.

Atop that, Microsoft confirmed original Xbox games will also be backwards compatible, so say hello to Splinter Cell, Brute Force, Halo and Chronicles of Riddick, to name but four. All will run with faster load times and smoothed out frame rates to boot

By far and away, Microsoft are the only company of the big three who AREN'T charging you to play your established games library (PlayStation has PS Now and the Switch can only support a Virtual Console interface), instead actively rewarding you with better performance across the board.

Making the play for brand legacy is a mighty powerful one, though we'll have to wait and see whether that outweighs the substantial $499 cost of the system in the first place.
