After a whole day of rumours suggesting that the cancellation of this year's E3 was imminent, the ESA has officially confirmed that the event is not going ahead. The news comes days after LA declared a State of Emergency over the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

In a press release alongside the news, the ESA stated:

“After careful consultation with our member companies regarding the health and safety of everyone in our industry—our fans, our employees, our exhibitors and our longtime E3 partners—we have made the difficult decision to cancel E3 2020, scheduled for June 9-11 in Los Angeles.”

While the event itself will not be going ahead, the announcements that would have taken place at the press conferences will still be going ahead. In the same statement, the ESA explained that it's "exploring options with our members to coordinate an online experience to showcase industry announcements and news in June 2020."

While that softens the blow for video game fans however, it won't be much consolation for the thousands of people working to make the event happen.

Expect more news on this in the coming days, as the companies involved respond to the cancellation.
