12. Anthem

After a disastrous launch and first month comprising everything from bugs bricking PS4s to various quests and story-halting glitches needing to be fixed on a weekly basis, Anthem has not had an easy go.

Many are ready to proclaim the entire endeavour a wash and look forward to Dragon Age 4, but what is here for now can scratch your action-loving itch, provided you're okay with a blandly written story and repetitive gunplay.

Lets stick to the positives, as Bioware have written a supremely interesting premise. The idea of the "anthem" itself being a literal song of creation sung by unseen godlike forces is fantastic, and flying your Javelin mech across the landscape comes with the perfect balance of weight and control.

Unloading a special or two into some enemies, dumping a clip into another and then kicking off the ground to find something else worth tackling is a great rush. There's clearly a foundation here, but whether Bioware can meaningfully build on it before EA get tired of waiting is another story entirely.
