In addition to developing the upcoming Beyond Good & Evil 2, Michel Ancel is also directing this long-gestating open-world survival game set during the Neolithic period (that's between 10,000 and 2,500 BC).

WiLD takes place in a procedurally generated world apparently verging on the infinite, with the player controlling a human trying to survive amid an unforgiving landscape populated with dangerous predators both animal and human.

In addition to boasting online play, the game will also allow players to use shamanic powers to possess any animal in the environment, gaining their abilities in the process.

But WiLD nearly wasn't included on this list at all given that many believe it to be vaporware, having been announced back at Gamescom 2014 and with updates proving rather scarce over the last few years. That's to say nothing of Ancel himself seeming to focus his creative juices on Beyond Good & Evil 2.

But Ancel occasionally chimes in on social media to confirm the game's continued development, and tellingly, Sony Interactive Entertainment renewed the trademark for WiLD back in March, seeming to confirm that it's still coming.

Sadly development this protracted is rarely a good sign, and it wouldn't be remotely surprising if WiLD ended up quietly dumped as a digital-only title at the tail-end of the PS4's life cycle. It's an intriguing concept, but like so many, doesn't quite instil enough confidence.
