The formerly niche Yakuza series has really hit its stride in the past couple of years, becoming a full-blown international sensation, just before the creators wrapped up Kazuma Kiryu's storyline for good with Yakuza 6.
So where does the franchise go from here? Well, this spiritual successor/spin-off continues that game's flavour and legacy but with a whole different angle and protagonist.
Instead of paying homage to hardboiled Japanese gangster action, Judgment dips into the mystery/thriller genre as our main protagonist is a disbarred lawyer running around Tokyo attempting to solve a shocking murder.
We can expect plenty of random street fights, off-kilter sidequests and break-neck tonal shifts to commence - but we wouldn't have it any other way.
