This season, a lot of praise has been heaped upon Tottenham's new players, such as Roberto Soldado and Christian Eriksen, both of whom have impressed since joining from Valencia and Ajax, respectively. Spurs are currently third in the table after a strong start to the campaign that has seen them win three of their first four games, and while the new faces deserve their praise, some of the "old guard" have been overlooked. Particularly by EA and FIFA 14, because defender Jan Vertonghen, who has been a defensive rock over the last 6 months, has only been rated 82. What makes that valuation all the more galling is that Ashley Cole has been given an 85, and Nemanja Vidic an 87. Since signing for Tottenham last year, Vertonghen has quite easily been one of the North Londoner's better players, being named in the Premier League PFA Team of the Year for 2012-13. Yet somehow, this has not been reflected by his rating in FIFA 14.
