He made his debut for the Blues Under-21 side later that year on 17 August against Manchester City. On 30 August, the attacking midfielder was sent on loan to Belgian outfit Zulte Waregem. The initial deal ran until the end of the 2012/13 season, but Chelsea and Waregem agreed for Thorgan to experience another season of first-team football in the Belgian Pro League. The 20-year-old has 23 international goals to his name at junior level for Belgium, and earned his first senior cap against USA on 29 May 2013.
