FIFA 19 Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

6. FIFA Does The Champions League Better Than PES

FIFA 19 Champions League
EA Sports

Loyalists of Konami's PES series will be positively seething when they read that sub-heading. They'll be even more angry when they see FIFA 19 in the flesh and realise that yes, EA's producers have taken Konami's Champions League work and improved on it in every conceivable way. UEFA's top club competition sparkles in EA's monster.

The first time you boot it up, have some Kleenex at the ready. Minds out the gutter, please, it's to dry your eyes.

The blueish hue to the presentation, the warm, impassioned welcomes of Derek Rae and Lee Dixon, the official anthem, the excitement flooding down from the stands that reveal this is ever-so-slightly more important than your average domestic league game. It's all there, and EA should be commended for pulling it all together.

They're clearly proud of their work too, because the Champions League is there across every mode, grinning from the screen like a teacher's pet. Though it's a pity the Europa League doesn't carry the same weight, that's the case in real life footy anyway.
