18. Final Fantasy
Ah, the original. The game that brought Squaresoft out from the brink of bankruptcy. As fans know and some others like to point out as irony, the first Final Fantasy was meant to be 'final'. A last ditch effort to make it in the gaming world. It worked, and the rest as they say, is history. FFI provided a solid RPG experience coupled with a simple story. It got its foundations right and gamers ate it up. It's hard to compare such an old game to today's standard, it would certainly be tough to recommend nowadays, but it deserves its place in history. 25 years ago - 1987 - was when it was released. And many fans are grateful not only to this original game, but to the fans who ate it up at the time, as the FF series grew, diversified and created many more memorable games.
