6. Will Hughes - Derby County
Nationality: English Position: MC/AMC The New: Steven Gerrard (And hopefully not Seth Johnson.) Naturally being English, Will Hughes' price tag in FM 13 was always going to be inflated, especially considering how uninspiring his initial stats were at Derby County at the start of the game. But appearances can often by misleading in the crazy world of Football Manager, and Hughes proved himself to be one of the best prospects in the English game if you shelled out the £4-5million it took to bring him away from Derbyshire (and more the longer you waited to make your move.) In real life Hughes is a highly prized asset, with mooted moves from the likes of
Liverpool and Manchester United (according to MailSport) so far failing to materialise, probably thanks to his nationality and the media hyperbole attached to any rising star who was born on these shores. However, he does look like he has lots of potential, and a move to the Premier League in the next couple of years would make sense. In FM13, he quickly developed into a good playmaker, passing and dribbling well, and his surprising strength and great off the ball ability made him a particularly fine addition to most squads as a flat central midfield option. He will undoubtedly cost more in FM 14, but for upwardly mobile Premier League sides, he will definitely be one to watch.
