Football Manager 2020 Tactics: How To Play 4–4–2  The Burnley Way

This role isn’t pretty but is effective. It acts as magnet for the ball when your side is on the attack. Your players will look to get the ball to him swiftly but that doesn’t mean your Target Man will always have to engage in an aerial battle. Strength, Technique and First Touch are just as important as Jumping Reach and Heading. You want the ball to stick whether it’s coming into the TM’s feet or towards his head. The role can be quite a static one but don’t over look Off The Ball. A big man who is hard to mark is a dangerous big man.

The final decision to make is choosing a Support or Attack duty. On Support, your player will help link the midfield and attack by dropping deep and holding the ball up. On Attack, your player will push higher up to put pressure on the opposition’s back line by either challenging for the ball in the air or moving in behind.
