An issue that is present in FM, that has recently been somewhat rectified after long being disappointing in FIFA's career mode, is that of player potential. All players have a ceiling that they are capable of reaching in-game, provided that they get enough game time and stay injury-free. However, football is full of stories such as Leicester City's Jamie Vardy who completely outperformed expectations to become an elite talent despite starting his career in relatively inauspicious circumstances.

In Football Manager 21, a player's potential should be more dependant on their success on the pitch rather than relying too heavily on a predetermined value. Feel good success stories are one of the things that makes the beautiful game so great, and FM should reflect that by allowing managers to see at least some of their stalwarts dramatically improve as they rise up the footballing pyramid.
