As recently as 2016 it seemed John Terry had been the only academy graduate to become a first team regular with Chelsea.

Terry made his debut for the club in 1998.

After Frank Lampard's arrival as manager, however, there has been a concerted effort to promote youth with the likes of Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount becoming regulars.

The latest to burst through the ranks is central midfielder Billy Gilmour.

The 18-year-old Scotsman began with small cameos in the league with the bulk of his minutes being made up by the domestic cup competitions, including a MotM performance versus Liverpool.

Gilmour has a keen eye for a pass and always looks comfortable on the ball, capable of dropping further down into a defensive midfield position too.

He recently revealed that he idolises Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas, and if he could become even half the players they were in their prime, then Chelsea are onto a winner.
