Football Manager 2022: 10 Tips To Get You Started
6. Take Responsibility for Scouting
As alluded to in previous entries on this list, Sports Interactive’s Football Manager is very good at giving players the choice in what aspects of a club they want to take direct control over.
Saying that though, one area that you should always try and take responsibility for is Scouting. That’s not to say that leaving your Scouting to your Chief Scout is necessarily going to lead to terrible returns, but it's so simple to set your scouts up on Scouting Assignments and the difference can often be massive.
Discovering good young players first can often be the difference when it comes to long-term success in Football Manager, and unless you have set up a robust scouting network to look for them in the right places, then you will almost always be pipped to the post by your rivals. In order to unearth the best wonderkids before they become eye-wateringly expensive you will need to cast your net far and wide to the places not often thought of for wonderkids, such as Columbia and Eastern Europe.
Getting enough knowledge on a player to make a timely transfer offer can be crucial when it comes to hoovering up wonderkids in FM22, and the trick is to scout everywhere you possibly can because you can be sure that your AI-controlled rivals are also doing the same.
