Gears Of War 4 Review: 7 Ups & 7 Downs
3. Co-Op Is A Total Blast (Of Course)
Gears is one of those games that's just so much better played co-op, and having beasted through GoW4's campaign with a pal, it makes the sometimes ennui-inducing nature of the gameplay so much easier to tolerate.
The increasingly rare allure of couch co-op is alive here, even with co-op being scaled back to just two players, and even if the game clearly buckles a little under the technical requirements that co-op lays out (the frame-rate in particular takes a hammering during intense fire-fights), you'll be having so much fun you probably won't much care.
Yes, playing with a mate does make the game significantly easier than going in with AI buddies, but the sheer enjoyment factor is amplified many times over, which really makes it the effortlessly superior way to play.
